Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2010

For 80 years, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has kicked off the holiday season with glorious bands, balloons and floats. It’s theatre of operations is New York City and the parade is watched by an estimated 3.5 million people in the streets and 50 million on NBC.

Watching the film “Up”reminded me of a few very similar (but non-rendered) stubborn homeowner situations i’ve read about over the past couple of years, the rememberance of which resulted in me researching a fascinating and surprisingly common property (especially in china) i now know to be called a ‘nail house’; so called as ‘they stick out like nails in an otherwise modernized environment’ and are hard to remove…

The Festival of Colors – Holi

People in India and other countries with large Hindu populations celebrated Holi, the Festival of Colors. Holi is celebrated as a welcoming of Spring, and a celebration of the triumph of good over evil. What that translates to in action is an enthusiastic dropping of inhibitions, as people chase each other and playfully splash colorful paint, powder and water on each other. People also attend bonfires to commemorate the story of Prahlada, a Hindu figure and devout follower of Lord Vishnu who prevailed over his father and the demoness Holika with the power of his devotion. Collected here are photos from this year’s Festival of Colors.

These photos bring happiness, we must to be a part of this!

I first heard about Holi six months ago and thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. Came across these pictures and I still think that it’s the most amazing celebration a person could have ever come up with. I wanted to go to India at some point, but seeing this solidifies that. I have to go in the springtime.

Andy Bloxham plays with Polaroids

Born and raised in a small Louisiana town, Andy Bloxham turned to his imagination for activity. This playful, creative approach to life extended to Andy’s adulthood, where it took form in photography, video, and writing. Receiving a BA in psychology and an MFA in photography from Louisiana Tech University, his images have appeared throughout the US in numerous group and solo exhibitions, and worldwide in both print and online media. His photography centers around fictional situations and events, told through the slight hint of a smirking camera. His techniques apply the command of tools ranging from a simple directional gesture, to strobe lighting and digital post-processing. Bloxham’s drive is matched only by the passion he has for extending this creative energy to others.

Breathtaking moments presented by Liwei

As we have seen in the previous articles, most of the artists were able to bedazzle us with their awesome photo manipulations. But, what if an artist could produce breath taking results without manipulations. As anyone who watched the opening ceremony of the recent Beijing Olympics will attest, China has been enjoying a burgeoning of the performing arts in recent years. One of the most striking artists to emerge from this thriving scene is Li Wei, who has become renowned for his arresting and seemingly gravity-defying photographic work. Strangely enough, his works are not photo-shopped but are a result his awesome skills.

After dropping out of art school and dabbling in oil painting, Li decided to focus on action art because, as he puts it, only it “offers a chance to experience an action’s message through one’s own body.” Li threw himself (literally) into this medium of expression, staging stunts in which he captures on film exhilarating moments of apparently extreme danger.

Strange house in Vietnam
